LADARWave Custom Cornea Treatments-customized wavefront-guided vision correction
Nevyas Eye Associates is proud to offer the LADARWave Custom Cornea treatment. Until recently, it was possible to treat only the visual problems caused by nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. These vision problems are responsible for only about 85-90% of the overall quality of your vision. There are other imperfections in the eye system that can affect the clarity of your vision. For example, some parts of the cornea may be “more nearsighted” than others. These imperfections are called “higher order” aberrations or distortions. They can cause glare, halos, shadows and clarity problems at night or in low light. Our surgeons can achieve an even higher quality visual outcome by customizing LASIK treatments to fit each patient’s unique visual system. Wavefront CustomCornea both measures and treats distortions in the eye that can cause glare, halos and blurred vision. Unless these added distortions are addressed, the visual quality may not be ideal, even if 20/20 vision is achieved. With Wavefront CustomCornea, the end result is a higher quality of vision, especially in dim lighting.
“Capture, Match and Treat”. This is how the new technology can best be described. First, a measurement of the eye is taken that helps to identify any higher level distortions in the eye. If they are present, these abnormalities are “captured” and then mapped out. Next, the mapped abnormalities are programmed into the actual LADARVision laser to be applied during surgery. The laser will actually take the mapped image and use it to guide the laser pulses. The result is a higher quality visual outcome.

Bladeless Corneal Refractive Surgery
Recently, innovations in instrumentation and medication have allowed us to introduce advanced surface correction procedures to our surgical armamentarium. These “bladeless” procedures include PRK and Epi-LASIK. They supplement our choice of laser procedures for those patients to whom it would be advantageous to operate without any corneal flap. This includes patients whose corneas are too thin or too irregular to allow safe LASIK surgery. These procedures are performed on the surface of the cornea after removal of the central corneal epithelium, and each has its own special advantages.
Laser vision correction is a safe and effective procedure for a very large percentage of our patients. For those who are not ideal candidates for LASIK, we offer a full armamentarium of other refractive procedures from which to choose. You may rest assured that when you choose to have the surgeons at Nevyas Eye Associates perform LASIK or any of our other refractive procedures on your eyes, you will be in very experienced, skilled and reliable hands.
